The first luxury motorhomes were built on Mercedes-Benz chassis 613/813. The interior was crafted in high-quality real wood.

Are these empty cabins also suitable for extremely high roof loads? The VARIOmobil team is convinced of this. At that time, the cabin was still tested manually. The load-bearing capacity of the body on the Suzuki Samurai provides insight. In the future, the company will dare to create cantilevered integrated motorhomes.
The motorhome body is so strong, it even carries the chassis.

An idea becomes a project and takes shape: being able to use a generous living space at your chosen location. And at the same time exploring the surroundings with a smaller, powerful local vehicle.
Also used as a business vehicle, the semi-trailer proves its versatility. Building on this vehicle type, the first commercially used special-purpose vehicles were created: mobile libraries. Info mobiles, exhibition and presentation vehicles, mobile banks, laboratories, office units, test vehicles and many others followed.
Alcove motorhomes are equipped with a sleeping alcove area above the driver’s cab. This creates a family-friendly room layout with two separate sleeping areas.
One advantage, in addition to the efficient use of space, is their winter suitability. The driver’s cab, which is not thermally insulated, is usually separated from the insulated living area.
Since 1986 VARIOmobil manufactures alcove motorhomes, here on a VW LT.

The first VARIO Bus is built on a Mercedes-Benz omnibus chassis.
VARIOmobil builds whatever German traffic regulations permit.
Registration of the brand “VARIOmobil” with the German Patent Office in Munich. The production facility is being expanded.

VARIO Integral motorhomes brought enormous space advantages with swivelling driver and passenger seats. For the first time, the driver's cab was included in the living area.
Today, this classic motorhome would be called semi-integrated.
Real-wood interior design in true manufactory craftsmanship. Even diagonally grained? Of course. “Your wishes are our commitment,” as they say at VARIOmobil.
The concept of the fully integrated VARIO Perfect motorhome is based on the MAN 10.180 HOCL bus chassis. This marks the debut of the new liner class in the 9-metre motorhome segment.
The vehicle features an exclusive solid-wood interior. And in all other areas, the name truly says it all: VARIO Perfect. The construction phase, completion, and approval are milestones of what would soon become the most sought-after VARIOmobiles. The trade fair premiere of the first VARIO Perfect takes place the following year at the leading exhibition.
The first apprentice learns his trade as a vehicle painter. Since then, car body and vehicle builders, carpenters and office clerks have also been trained. These include various guild, chamber, state and, in 2015, a national winner.

The small integrated brother of the VARIO Perfect has a roof elevation in the rear. This brings standing height and airy freshness in hot travel destinations. At the same time, the motorhome is compact and manoeuvrable: with minimum length and maximum comfort.
The demand for secondary vehicles on board the motorhome is growing.
VARIOmobil installs the first car garage in a motorhome in the Alkoven 900 model. Numerous other models follow, such as the VARIO Perfect, which is also optionally available with exclusive airbrush paintwork.

VARIOmobil follows the demand for increasingly complex and high-quality furniture construction with the expansion of the joinery. The in-house furniture paint shop is ceremoniously put into operation.
The first VARIOmobil with Slide Out and gold leaf design travels to the CARAVAN SALON in Düsseldorf.
The extendable living area bay windows are also referred to as slide-out technology. They serve the enlargement of the vehicle interior by up to three extendable areas. When extended, they can open up the lounge and/or the kitchen, the bed, and/or the reading sofa in the living area.
Depending on how the light falls, the eye-catching design paintwork of the motorhome appears in purple or green and in all shades in between.
